- Hanging fixtures: for a dining table, hang the bottom of the fixture 30–36″ above the table. In an entryway, keep at least 7 ft of floor clearance.
- Chandelier diameter: a common starting point is room length (ft) + room width (ft) = fixture diameter in inches.
- Vanity & sconces: mount sconces about eye level (60–66″) and size vanity lights to roughly 75% of the mirror width.
- Outdoor: confirm the fixture’s wet/damp rating and that its scale suits the exterior wall or ceiling — outdoor fixtures often need to read larger.

Both styles exist. Hardwired picture lights need a junction box behind or above the artwork. Plug-in models use a cord and wall outlet — easier for renters. Match width to artwork — fixture length roughly ½ to ¾ of frame width.
3000K neutral white renders colors accurately without excessive warmth. High-CRI bulbs (90+) show true reds and blues. Avoid UV-heavy sources that fade art — LED picture lights are generally safe at moderate output.
Low-voltage LED strips and puck lights often need a driver (similar to a transformer). Line-voltage fixtures plug in or hardwire directly. Confirm what is included — buying strips without a driver means an extra component.
Depends on the product. LED strips need compatible dimmers and often a dimmable driver. Check the full system compatibility before install — mixing non-dimmable drivers with dimmer switches causes flicker or failure.
