Getting the Size Right

• Hanging fixtures: for a dining table, hang the bottom of the fixture 30–36″ above the table. In an entryway, keep at least 7 ft of floor clearance.
• Chandelier diameter: a common starting point is room length (ft) + room width (ft) = fixture diameter in inches.
• Vanity & sconces: mount sconces about eye level (60–66″) and size vanity lights to roughly 75% of the mirror width.
• Outdoor: confirm the fixture’s wet/damp rating and that its scale suits the exterior wall or ceiling — outdoor fixtures often need to read larger.

How high should wall sconces be mounted?  

Generally 60–72 inches from the floor to the center of the fixture — eye level for most adults. Flanking a mirror, sconces sit 60–65 inches apart center-to-center at about face height. Adjust for ceiling height and furniture scale.

Do I need one or two sconces beside a bathroom mirror?  

Two sconces at eye level give the most even facial lighting for grooming. One fixture above the mirror works but casts shadows under chin and brows. For a single sconce, choose a wider bar light above instead.

What is the difference between uplight and downlight sconces?  

Uplights wash the ceiling and create ambient glow. Downlights provide task lighting on walls, art, or countertops. Many sconces do both with open or diffused designs. Choose based on whether you need accent or task light.

Can sconces be used in damp or wet locations?  

Bathroom and outdoor sconces need damp or wet ratings respectively. Dry-location sconces in living rooms cannot go in showers or exposed outdoor walls. Match Safety Rating to installation zone.

Why does the same finish on sconces and pendants look different?  

Different materials (glass vs. metal shade), light direction, and brand formulas change perceived color. Ordering sconces and pendants from the same collection guarantees design coordination; exact finish match still varies slightly by component.

Do sconces include bulbs and what type?  

Check Bulbs Included and Bulb Base on the spec sheet. Common bases are E26, E12, and G9. Max wattage limits still apply with LEDs. Integrated LED sconces have fixed output — no bulb changes.

Can I put sconces on a dimmer?  

Yes with dimmable bulbs and an LED-compatible dimmer. Bedside and dining room sconces benefit from dimming. Multi-gang boxes with sconces and other loads need dimmers rated for total LED load.

How far from a door frame should entryway sconces be?  

Typically 6–8 inches from the door casing to the fixture center, at roughly 66 inches high. Symmetry matters — measure both sides carefully. UL listing assumes hardwired installation by a licensed electrician.

What lumens do I need from a wall sconce?  

Accent sconces 200–400 lumens; hallway and bathroom task sconces 400–800 lumens each. Pairs double the output. Sconces are usually supplemental — not the sole light source for a room unless specified as high-output.

How are pairs of sconces sold and shipped?
