Size & Placement at a Glance
Where it goes
Work lights for garages, laundry rooms, and shops. Length should span the work area; confirm hardwire vs. plug-in and damp rating if needed.
Getting the Size Right
Dimensions matter for every lighting type. Check the full Dimensions & Size specs above against your space before ordering.
- Hanging fixtures: for a dining table, hang the bottom of the fixture 30–36″ above the table. In an entryway, keep at least 7 ft of floor clearance.
- Chandelier diameter: a common starting point is room length (ft) + room width (ft) = fixture diameter in inches.
- Vanity & sconces: mount sconces about eye level (60–66″) and size vanity lights to roughly 75% of the mirror width.
- Outdoor: confirm the fixture’s wet/damp rating and that its scale suits the exterior wall or ceiling — outdoor fixtures often need to read larger.

Utility — Frequently Asked Questions
Utility category covers commercial-style strip lights, vapor-tight fixtures, emergency units, and work lights for garages, warehouses, basements, and utility rooms — function over form with high output and durable housings.
Sealed housing keeps moisture and dust out — for car washes, parking garages, food prep, and outdoor soffits. IP65 or higher indicates dust and water jet resistance. Required where standard fixtures would corrode or short.
General garage 3000–6000 lumens total. Detailed work (woodshop) 5000–10,000+ lumens. Utility LED strips deliver 4000–5000+ lumens each — measure space and divide by desired foot-candles or use trial placement.
Some are dimmable with 0–10V dimming (commercial) or standard LED dimmers — many utility fixtures are non-dimmable on/off only. Check spec before assuming dimming — industrial fixtures often omit it.
4000K–5000K cool white improves visibility for tasks and security. 3000K is acceptable for finished basement living space. Motion sensors pair well with utility fixtures in infrequently used areas.
Modern utility fixtures are often integrated LED with 50,000-hour ratings. Older style may use T8/T5 tubes — confirm whether tubes are included. Replacement integrated modules vary by manufacturer.
Most residential utility fixtures are 120V line voltage. Commercial units may be 277V — verify before ordering for a home garage. Multi-voltage fixtures (120–277V) work in both settings.
Mount to ceiling joists or strut channel with appropriate hardware. Weight and heat are low for LED strips but follow manufacturer spacing. Hardwire to a switch or use plug-in models for temporary work lighting.
Some utility products include emergency battery backup (maintains light during power outage for egress). These require specific mounting height and testing per code — often commercial applications; check local requirements.
4-foot and 8-foot strips ship in rigid cartons — inspect for bent housings. Freight applies for pallet quantities. Estimated Ship Date reflects commercial special orders.
