Size & Placement at a Glance
Where it goes
Adjustable heads along a ceiling rail for kitchens, galleries, and retail. Rail length and layout should cover the area you want to light without dark spots.
Getting the Size Right
Dimensions matter for every lighting type. Check the full Dimensions & Size specs above against your space before ordering.
- Hanging fixtures: for a dining table, hang the bottom of the fixture 30–36″ above the table. In an entryway, keep at least 7 ft of floor clearance.
- Chandelier diameter: a common starting point is room length (ft) + room width (ft) = fixture diameter in inches.
- Vanity & sconces: mount sconces about eye level (60–66″) and size vanity lights to roughly 75% of the mirror width.
- Outdoor: confirm the fixture’s wet/damp rating and that its scale suits the exterior wall or ceiling — outdoor fixtures often need to read larger.

Track — Frequently Asked Questions
They are incompatible standards named by contact shape. H-type (Halo), J-type (Juno), and L-type (Lightolier) have different connector shapes. Match new heads and pendants to your existing track type — adapters between systems are unreliable.
Yes if total wattage stays within the track and circuit limit (often 1200–2400W for incandescent ratings, less for LED). Count existing heads plus new ones. LED heads draw far less power than old halogen track heads.
LED heads use 6–15W vs. 50–75W halogen with similar lumens — cooler operation and no frequent bulb changes. Match track type and voltage (120V line voltage is standard residential). Check beam angle for accent vs. flood needs.
Track mounts to the ceiling plane — on a slope, the track follows the slope. Heads rotate to aim light where needed. Long runs on steep vaults may need suspension kits to keep the track level.
Narrow spot (15–25°) for accent art and products. Flood (35–60°) for general wall wash. Very narrow (10°) for high ceilings and dramatic pin spots. Many LED heads offer interchangeable optics or adjustable beam.
Yes with dimmable heads and an LED-compatible dimmer on the track circuit. All heads on one track share one dimmer — ensure combined load is within dimmer rating. Magnetic low-voltage tracks need MLV dimmers.
Different product lines and visible surface area cause perceived mismatch. Track heads are often black or white baffle with small trim rings. Order the same finish code from one brand when visible coordination matters.
Integrated LED track heads have built-in diodes — no separate bulb. Socketed heads may ship without bulbs. Verify lamp type (PAR20, GU10, etc.) and max wattage before ordering bulbs separately.
Surface-mounted track attaches to ceiling boxes or toggles with proper anchors. Hardwired connection requires turning off the breaker — hire an electrician if adding a new circuit or box. Plug-in track kits exist for renters.
Track rails ship in 4-foot or 8-foot sections — splice connectors join them. Bent or damaged rails affect head contact. Freight may apply for large commercial track orders.
