Over a table, the pendant diameter should be ½ to ⅔ the table width. Over an island, use multiples or a linear fixture. For a single pendant in a foyer, add room dimensions in feet for approximate diameter in inches.

30–36 inches from countertop to bottom of shade for 8-foot ceilings. Adjust up for taller ceilings or down for stronger task light — but never below eye level for seated guests at an island with seating.

Many include a swivel canopy for slopes up to 30–45 degrees. For steep vaults, use an adjustable cord length and confirm the canopy tilts. Fixed-rod pendants may not work on slopes without an adapter.

Kelvin measures color temperature. 2700K is warm and amber (cozy kitchens, dining). 3000K is soft white (cleaner, modern). 4000K is cool white (task-focused). Use the same temperature across all kitchen pendants for uniform light.

Monitor settings, photography, and batch variation affect appearance. Live finishes also pick up reflections from walls and counters. Brushed finishes show more variation than polished. Order from one brand when matching matters.

New wiring and a junction box are required — hire an electrician. Retrofit canopies exist for swag mounting from a wall outlet, but permanent pendants need a ceiling box rated for the fixture weight.

If listed as dimmable and paired with compatible bulbs and an LED dimmer. Pendants over dining tables and islands benefit from dimming. Smart switches and bulbs add dimming without changing wall wiring.

Glass and heavy metal pendants ship in heavy-duty cartons with separate shade packing. Freight may apply for oversized pieces. Inspect on delivery — hidden shade cracks are easier to claim before signing the freight bill.
